This blog post is dedicated to a very special dog named Atticus. And, to and my very special mom who has trained him to be a service dog.

Atticus came to us a little over two years ago when he was a tiny puppy fluffball. And, I think it's safe to say that we all quickly fell in love with him. I mean, seriously...isn't he the cutest little thing that you ever did see??

My incredible mother has spent her first 2 years of retirement training Atticus to be a service dog through Helping Paws. My mom, and all of the volunteer dog trainers, work oh so hard to turn tiny kooky puppies into grown up dogs that can be a special helper to someone who needs them.

I have watched Atticus learn how to open doors, turn on and off light switches, pick up tiny objects from the floor (without eating them!), and unload clothes from the dryer. (Sometimes, Atticus is definitely more well trained than my own children.)

Atticus will soon be able to put all of his knowledge to use. In a few weeks, he will transition from my parent's home to his new and permanent family. I am so proud of my mom and Atticus, for all the hard work they've done over the past couple of years to make him ready for this.

To celebrate dear Atticus and to say good-bye to him, I got to take some photos over the weekend.

Atticus -- we know you're going to do great things! Thanks for bring so much laughter and light into our lives in the last two years. You're a good dog.
